“So you’re made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?”
―Neil deGrasse Tyson

I was gonna say I read it but ooooooo update!
THAT WAS A LOVELY UPDATE
he keeps saying all good things must come to an end but
I just remembered this time in college when my roommate, who happened to be black, and I were walking back to our apartment from the grocery store. We came to an intersection that we needed to cross and when the light came on for us to go, she rushed through the crosswalk while I took my time. When she noticed I wasn’t right behind her, she waved to me and yelled, “HURRY UP” and I was just ????
She then lectured me on how I shouldn’t take my time crossing the street because people will look for any chance to mow black people down, and that she didn’t want to see me as the victim of a hit and run. I was (and still am kind of) floored because I’ve never even thought to worry about something like that
Like, what kind of world is this that someone should feel they have to hurry across the street because of the colour of their skin??
